"Issues of Translation" Workshop

December 3, 2014

EPiC is pleased to announce our second workshop, "Issues of Translation", featuring Alex Levant. Professor Levant has recently completed an English translation of previously untranslated material by Russian philosopher Evald Ilyenkov. Levant's research also concerns the origin and development of the mind, identity, and the self.

The workshop will be held Wednesday, December 3rd, in the Lougheed room—Richardson Hall room 340. All are welcome to attend. We will begin with a luncheon from 1:00-1:30pm, and then transition to a seminar running from 1:30-4:00pm. For more information or to RSVP, please contact EPiC.

EPiC Research Group Meeting

Jeremy Butler will be presenting a draft at this week's EPiC meeting. The paper is entitled "Mythology and Moralization: the role of National Identity in Civic Education", and the meeting will be in Watson 307, this Friday, from 12:00-2:00pm. All are invited, and no previous experience is required.

The next EPiC meeting will be this Friday, from 12:00-2:00pm, in Watson 307. David Bakhurst will speak about his current research, in particular the notion of "the meeting of minds" and its place in education.

The EPiC research group will be reading and discussing David Wiggins' "Practical Knowledge: Knowing How to and Knowing That." The meeting will take place Friday the 31st, at Watson 307, from 12:00-2:00 P.M. Michael Vossen will be introducing the piece, speaking briefly to the argument's shape and bearing on education.
